Can you try with the latest 1.4 from SVN? There has been a lot of changes
lately to transfers and such -- one of them may have fixed your issue!

If not, then I would suggest you checkout the latest 1.4, and be sure to
enable DONT_OPTIMIZE so we can get a useful backtrace.
