Thanks David for responding. I've posted text files of the configure output
to the point where it hangs and thereafter I can't even use the PC and I
have also include uname and cpuinfo output.

Maybe there is a check that fails earlier on and is required in the later
checks.

I have only experienced problems with the gigabyte chipset when I was
installing Linux and the X11 software.

Could there be a known problem for Asterisk with gigabyte chipsets?
