The command
/etc/init.d/./asterisk status
does not work.

Which operating system? There are three different versions of this script
that implement "status" (and also one zaptel one that does).
Also, note that patches provided other than as attachments will be
deleted. Before you submit a patch, you need to accept the contributors'
licence agreement and have it agreed by Digium. You then need to upload as
an attachment, marked as code/documentation.
Finally, assuming that you are able to agree the licence, the preferred
format for patches is the output from "diff -u".
