In reference to the above post:

In this report, everyone who has attempted to replicate the fault with
FXO/FXS loopback has been unable to do so.  Many people are experiencing
difficulties in a real world setting.

One could equally argue, what is the difference between my Asterisk PABX
that makes DTMF like noises and cannot dial out, and my $5 analogue phone
which makes DTMF noises and can dial out.

I don't want to get into a flame war.  I just want this to work.  We spent
a lot of money on Digium TDM hardware that is broken with the current
drivers on modern hardware.  I don't want somebody discover that FXS/FXO
loopback works and declare this as fixed.  I pressume that FXS/FXO loopback
testing was performed before release and indeed, early in this thread,
sruffell indicated that he was not able to reproduce the fault in the lab,
only with actual PSTN lines.  For a technical rational, please see my
previous post.
