Speaking as another of the nameless bug followers around here, it's fairly
evident that the SRTP feature and the Bug 8824 Remote Party feature have
some EXTREMELY significant user demand. I have personally been following
both issues going on 4 years now. Both issues have the common problem of
being relatively complicated patch sets due to the way they twiddle with
internals.

In situations like this there are always going to be problematic edge
cases, but the fact remains that without getting the issue into trunk,
these kinds of problems will just continue to come up occasionally as a
report to an out of date branch that has languished and/or broken by
automerge problems.

I'm not so sure what my opinion matters, but I will cast a vote for
ANYTHING that will get these kind of issues merged at this point, no matter
how absurd the consequence. As an extreme example, I would be happy to see
SRTP merged at this point even if it ONLY supported MIKEY, simply because
even though it would be largely useless, it would pave the way for
additional support instead of leaving the whole patch lumbering along with
no hope.

Things like SRTP and Called Party Identification are no longer novelty
features in SIP software; they are widely implemented and expected
offerings. While Asterisk probably doesn't have enough to actually *drive*
vendors implementations of these things, getting the features integrated
means that at least Asterisk gets its own 'vote' when vendors go to
implement them in their software and firmwares.
