Well, I don't know enough of the history of the port, but I could imagine that stuff has to be done step by step, and having the hardware available or not might be part of the issue. But anyway, I can't speak on that, perhaps others will.

But do you mean 'the card was no longer supported when going from zaptel to dahdi'?  Or do you mean within the dahdi port itself?

Sometime way back the zaptel port was still working but the word on the street was that Dahdi was taking over due to some kind of copyright infringement. Even so the wfxo and wfxs modules were removed from the zaptel port. Then the Dahdi port was deployed and the modules were not included in it either. My X101P card cannot work without the wxfo module. And that's bad because apparently I had a good card as it worked very reliably and delivered clear sound with no echo. I could plug it into my PSTN outlet in my house and then Asterisk became my total answering, call screening service. 
 
And to be honest about the step by step stuff, I think these modules were removed because no one wanted to bother with them in favor of the more "advanced" TDM cards, etc... and like I said, everytime I mentioned an X100 or X101 card the replies were very negative and critical that these cards were nothing but modified modems, and were just crap to be avoided. Mine worked very well this I was dissappointed when the modules were abandoned and no one wanted to make use of them anymore.
 
BTW - I am using Asterisk again but only very limited and only with a VOIP provider I put my X101P card away. My cable provider now does my main phone service and they had all the things needed like voicemail that I needed so I moved away from my dependence on my Asterisk server. I still like to hack with it though.
