I get 8192 samples in 8191 sample intervals 99.987793% on a Dell SC420 with 
128Meg o' Ram, Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.53GHz (2527.01-MHz 686-class CPU) on
FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE-p5 #0

He only runs asterisk so 128Meg seems to be fine for now.
