cd /usr/ports/net/asterisk
make all install clean

edit /etc/rc.conf and add the line
asterisk_enable="YES"

to run it on startup. TO start/stop manually, the rc script is
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/asterisk.sh

I have previously set up * on Linux. I am not familiar with all of the
nuances of FreeBSD... Has anyone did a HOWTO for setting up * on
FreeBSD. Not so much the * setup, but any system configuration issues.
