When all the smoke clears, it will become clear former fcc powell was
in the pocket of Verizon and SBC (wihcih is shortly to become ATT) with
the deregulation of dsl lines and no longer need to sell access to
anybody if they choose.<br>

stopping to acquire new customers and how congress is in process of

It isn't perfect - and the database is always getting stomped on by the
local ILEC - at least for the ported numbers - but it does work.
It's basically a portal service. We edit our portion of the E911
database and push it up to the portal. They push the info out to the
proper places. Updates take 24 to 48 hours.
Its up to us to get the calls to the proper PSAP... which turns out to
be somewhat easier than updating those damn databases. So I feel your
pain.
For some sites (areas not-covered by Omali) we are considering using the
local Fax line and hooking up an ATA to that line (with a cutout switch)
and using it as the local 911 trunk for that client.

Funny thing, we've pushed locally for e911 since the beginning. We just
never expected to build out nationwide to support local customers who
'might' pickup their device and try it while at a temporary location.
Now if only the database updates were easier to process, if connections
were easier to order, if we had provider liability protections, then we
could create peering or partnerships to cover the US.

Can anyone say IP?
I'd like to see each PSAP work into their contracts a requirment for IP
connectivity from their local telco. (or other provider) Would make this
SO MUCH EASIER!
