I not only get it, but I also have done the calculations, the same as anyone
with 2 months experience in telecom reselling, and it happens that the
expense of trans-coding is part of the business.  What kind of reseller is
it that is in the business and doesn't want to spend money in g729
licensing?  Are you going to walk away from a provider just because of his
codec, without considering his ASR, QOS, technical support, or price as
primary criteria?

I don't think you get it. If a carrier only uses g729 and you don't want
g729 for licensing, quality, whatever, then you simply choose another
carrier. If a carrier doesn't want to tell you what codecs they are using,
then why would you choose that carrier?
