For my low volume SMS requirements I use a Wavecom plugged into a Linux box 
running Kannel.

Two pints about getting an interconnect with a telco:
1. It's an exclusive club - ie: you need to be well resourced (including 
financially)

2. Unless you are very sizeable the rates you will get will often be worse 
then had you been a residential customer using your cellular phone.
