Well, if it would be possible to compile asterisk to run on an Android GSM 
phone, think of the opportunity this would open. It would give asterisk 
access to the GSM network and send / receive SMS messages in an easy way.

One could create a stable GSM Gateway compatible with all protocols at 
very low cost :)
