The carrier isnt the one that gave the number to the end user, the 3rd
party non-carrier ITSP was. Given that you dont get a bill from
vonage, that makes it harder to prove that you are the one paying for
the number, that number specifically and not just some other service
that might appear on a credit card bill.

trying to verify yourself with a carrier that has no record of you as
a customer is next to impossible. Now you could verify yourself
against vonage, but the exerpt that you quoted was to say that going
to the carrier and trying to prove yourself when their records show
vonage is the customer in charge would be difficult at best if vonage
didnt want to play along.

Now since you seem to have some insight, how would you know that I was
trying to steal someones vonage number if I initiated a port of a
tollfree that was assigned to vonage? You cant possibly be claiming
that you have access to vonages customer list, and if you are I call
shenanigans.

So I dont know why you said that its untrue that a carrier wouldnt
know who their customer assigned the number to. They would have no
idea who, in this case, vonage assigned a number to, and would be
reluctant at best to port it away without vonages blessing.
