[asterisk-biz] VOIP ITSP warning

I guess you cannot log in to see what it looks like?

It would astonish me that some scammer somehow got your PayPal login
information unless you use the same password with different providers
and sites as you do with PayPal.

I would suggest that everyone change their password to any banking
institution if it is the same password you use elsewhere.

Lets say for instance, and this is totally an example. An employee or
ex-employee of VoipJet decided to rip a few people off. He has your
PayPal email and the password you used to sign up at VoipJet, boom he
sets up an account to receive money and tries all the accounts in the
VoipJet database on PayPal through a proxy.

I think there are probably quite a few people that use the same password
everywhere. I have seen countless instances of people doing this and
could be a multi-millionaire if I were a thief.

Thanks,
Steve Totaro

Well, for what it's worth, I came home today after being in the hospital
for 4 days and found Paypal had closed down my account because of a
suspicious transaction for $250.

It was marked Voipjet. So, it's certainly not just Kim that has had
this happen. Whether or not it's really Voipjet or someone posing as
Voipjet remains to be seen.

I'm not posting this to corroborate Kim's experience. Rather, I want
people knowing there may be an issue with scammers posing as ITSPs.

Best to all

Tom

Paypal does have a "preapproved vendor" type of thing but the account
holder has to approve that. It would be used for automatically paying
things like a monthly hosting fee. Voipjet does not use that method. I
went most of the way through the "prepay $250" procedure on my voipjet
account to be sure of that before responding to the OP.

Also note that you can login to paypal and cancel a preapproved vendor
arrangement anytime before they take more money. It's not like giving
someone a credit card and then they "accidentally" charge you again
after you cancel service.
