Hi all,
I was at the adobe Max conference in Oct and was able to talk to quite
a few people including the ribbit guys and the Adobe Pacifica manager
(Adobe Pacifica project to embed SIP stack into flash player 9)
I am pretty impressed with the overall idea of the ribbit guys: to
build interesting applications around voice by leveraging on Adobe
Flash flex. However, they have I believe bigger issues than just
funding. Their voice architecture is totally server based as they are
using proprietary codec like Nelly Moser that exist in Flash 9. The
RTP streams have to go through the server in order to be terminated to
PSTN. From both a cost & scalability point of view, this architecture
is probably not the best to scale voice traffic from all the
associated flash voice applications they are running (voicemail to
text, text to voicemail, conferencing etc). Ribbit is trying to be an
ITSP infrastructure platform provider to people who want to do voice
apps in flash.
