The fact that the license very clearly states that if you distribute a
program that uses it you *must* give credit to them, it uses the crypto
functions in validating the license file.  

The license isnt vague on this point.

I did not see such a notice in the codecs, the register tool appears 
to have been updated, and kevin even commented on the fact they added 
a '-l' option to the register utility to make it compliant, because
originally it too was not compliant.

I fail to see why there would be any doubt in your mind on this issue.
