That may be , if you could port out before this happened and not now it may be that there are unpaid bills.  If that is the case, then there may be other problems in the future.

Was anyone able to port their tollfree out of nufone prior to the carrier pulling out?

The resporg is almost always the certified carrier and not the itsp.  There are certain duties a resporg must be able to perform and most itsps aren’t  able/willing to do this.
