[asterisk-biz] Asterisk in Brazil - what telco interfaces

Hi, Everybody

There are many telco options in Brazil, but the options varies by State. The
biggest telco are :

- Telefonica
- Telemar
- Embratel
- Brasil Telecom
- GVT

Most of those companies will offer you analog lines (metalic pair) or E1
MFC/R2 (a brazilian variation, supported by Asterisk under patch). In some
states you can find some ISDN BRI facilities, or more rarely ISDN PRI. But
the standard is MFC R2 (digital 30 channel) for high volumes.

Only one company (GVT) offer VoIP termination (www.vono.net.br), local
public telephone number (DID) over Internet (using Asterisk or an ATA device
or gateway like Octel, Sipura).

If you need local assistance to install and configure Asterisk, we can help
you in Brazil.

Good luck and best regards

Adelino Baena

Subject: [asterisk-biz] Asterisk in Brazil - what telco interfaces

List,

can someone please state what telco interfaces there are in Brazil, i.e.
what connections (ISDN, analogue with DDI, T1/E1, what general
specifications) the telcos offer?

I have an Asterisk system to configure for to be used in Brazil as an
replacement of an existing analogue pbx, and was wondering what kind of
connectivity I could get there.

Also, is IP termination of phone numbers/ddi number blocks already
possible in Brazil? Can one buy Snom phones in Brazil, or what kind of
VoIP phones would be "more common" there? Location will be São Paulo.

Sorry for being such a newbie.

Thanks,

Frank
