I am talking about issue that must be handled.  Ex. I changed my email
address and no matter how much I ping John to update my email address I get
no response.  I couldn't figure out a way to change it in his portal either.

Don't take me wrong.  I am all for low cost, and I wouldn't expect John to
help me setup up my * or figure out my dialplan.  But issues related to
accounts and billing must be addressed.  I also got the notion that this is
a one-man show and I am not sure what guarantees I have if something (God
forbid) happened to him.  That is why I don't fund our account with him for
more than the minimum and use his line as a backup.
