The longtime custom when changing message Subject: fields is to go
from:

Subject: old subject

to

Subject: new subject (was: Re: old subject)

in the first message on the new subject, then (optionally, these days)
in subsequent messages

Subject: new subject

This syntactic problem was solved many years ago.
