The older Cisco phones when first plugged in bridge the TX pair to the
receive until they get power.

The Cisco PWR switches send out a signal on the TX pair if it comes back to
them on the receive pair they then power up the port. So the only to get
power to a older Cisco phone is always power them with a injector which you
can buy for about $8-10 each or use a patch panel injector for about $500
for 24 ports or buy a used Cisco 3500 switches which sell for about $100 for
24 port and 1800 for 48 port.

Just came across these "PW130 - Ault Power Injectors Comply with IEEE
802.3af for Single-Port Power-over-Ethernet LAN. Will these work with
legacy Cisco gear such as 7905G or 7940G? I have an inexpensive Linksys
switch that provides 802.3af power and it will not work with Cisco even
with that "special" crossover cable.
