This is definitely FUD. It is called Asterisk at Home because it
includes an interface for smart-home controllers, not because it only
works for household installations. A at H is simply a bundle of
Asterisk, AMP, SugarCRM, FOP, and a number of other goodies. It is
not feature limited or somehow hobbled. As has been mentioned on this
list before (by me, even...) A at H/AMP does indeed provide ways to
customize the installation. I, for example, have customized it to
send a particular ZAP channel to a ring group instead of following
the "Incoming calls" settings in AMP.
Now, if you are the type of person who wants unlimited control over
asterisk, then you shouldn't use AMP/A at H, because the GUI necessarily
places limits on the level of customization you can make. However, I
would venture a guess that at least 95% of small businesses are
looking for a system that is full-feaured, affordable, and reliable.
They are much less concerned with massive customizability. (Witness
the success of the AT&T/Lucent/Avaya Partner systems with small
businesses. Far less customizable or full featured than A at H.)
Tom
PS: We still don't know what version of A at H gave you problems...
