DID is an expression meaning a number in the public switched telephone 
network (PSTN). In our case, it refers to a number serviced by a provider 
who will deliver the calls to you via IAX or SIP. This is called 
Origination.

On the other side of the call is Termination, where you send an oubound 
call to a provider that delivers it back to the PSTN.
