With all the noise on this list about certain things I was thinking.. 
Would it not make more sense to do the following...

Each ecommerce transaction is broken down into a few steps..  Wouldn't 
it make more sense to just to an "authorize" for the right amount.. Then 
wait 36 hours to do the capture?  This would avoid charges with refunds, 
allow unhappy/happy customers and you still get paid? After a few days 
of the authorized amount not being captured it would appear as available 
in their account and all is happy..
